About Trafalgar London

Trafalgar Square, often abbreviated simply as Trafalgar, is located in central London, England, UK, and it's considered to be one of the most famous squares in the Unite Kingdom, and the world. The name of the square commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, which took place in 1805, a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars. Its name would have been "King William the Fourth's Square", but George Ledwell Taylor suggested the name "Trafalgar Square".

It is a major attractions in the beautiful city of London, its centerpiece being Nelson's Column, guarded by four lion statues at its base, a monument risen to commemorate the death of Admiral Nelson, at the Battle of Trafalgar. There are numerous other statues on display in the square, including a fourth plinth displaying changing pieces of contemporary art. Due its beauty and historical heritage, the square is often used for political demonstrations and community gatherings, such as the celebration of New Year's Eve in London, one of the city's most popular annual events.

Trafalgar Square has become a social and political location for visitors and Londoners alike, blossoming from "an esplanade peopled with figures of national heroes, into the country's foremost place politique", as historian Rodney Mace stated in its writings. It carries a significant symbolic importance and it is also one of the most "historic" and most visited places in the UK.

Trafalgar Square is a major attractions in London, but the city has to offer much more. There are tons of other appealing attractions in the city, among London's top 10 attractions also being London Eye, the National Gallery and Tower of London, including fabulous museums such as the British Museum or the Natural History Museum.

The world-famous British Museum houses an impressive collection that includes works by the hands of man from prehistoric to modern times from around the world. Among the museum's highlights, we also find the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, and the mummies in the Ancient Egypt collection. The entry is free of charge, but there are times when tickets are required, more exactly when special exhibitions are on display.

Another point of interest in London is Tate Modern, Britain's national museum of modern and contemporary art. From its unique shape, due to previously being a power station, to the vast collection of temporary exhibitions by top artists from Damien Hirst to Gauguin, Tate Modern pleasantly surprises visitors, every time.

The London Eye is one of the attractions in London, considered not to be missed. It is the world's highest observation wheel, with 32 capsules, each weighing 10 tonnes, and holding up to 25 people. It offers and addrenaline-pumping, unique experience, and unforgettable views of more than 55 of London's most famous landmarks - all in just 30 minutes.

Other major attractions in London, include: the Science Museum, which reveals the major scientific advances of the last 300 years, The Tower of London, one of the city's most famous and renowned landmarks, as well as one of the world's most famous buildings, Victoria & Albert Museum, also referred to as simply A&M, which celebrates art and design with 3,000 years worth of amazing artefacts from around the world, and Madame Tussauds, featuring over 300 wax figures, representing personalities from show-biz, sport, politics and even Royalty.
